Local Conservative Councillor, Peter Winkler, has been appointed as the new Ambassador for national charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Earlier this year the organisation opened up their ambassador program to take on just 50 new representatives who will help to spread information and raise awareness of the national campaigns and initiatives run by Keep Britain tidy and coordinate local groups who are interested in helping to make the areas in which they live and work cleaner and greener.
The role involved working closely with the Ambassador Team to feed back information about what is happening across the country both in terms of problems that areas are facing and the localised action that is taking place, this in turn helps to build a bigger, nation picture about the problems our country is facing and how different areas are finding ways to tackle this issue.
Speaking about the appointment Cllr. Winkler said: "I was delighted to be invited to become an Ambassador for Keep Britain Tidy, I have spent many years working for the improvement of our area, as one of the founder members of the Rochdale in Bloom movement and for many years as the shadow Portfolio holder for Environment this really resonated with me. I hope that with the added support of the KBT team I will be able to engage even more people in the work that is going on here in Norden and across the borough, linking in with other groups across the UK who have similar goals."
"Every year we have a Great Spring Clean event, but I am working with residents throughout the year who are keeping that effort going with smaller weekly and monthly efforts, we are now going to formalise this into monthly community session so that more people can get involved throughout the year, to keep our village looking fabulous."
The first community session will take place from 10am - 11am on Sunday 3rd November, all equipment will be provided. Residents wishing to get involved just meet to turn up outside the Norden Old Library for a 10:00am start.
