Bamford Councillors` Report November/December 2024
We were pleased to be able to financially support our Highways plan to ease the parking situation around Oulder Hill at the Rochdale South Township meeting in October. This has been an ongoing situation and it has been difficult to balance the needs of residents and those of the businesses there. Hopefully the proposals will protect and enhance the safety of the nearby junctions without the loss of legitimate parking spaces. It is worth remembering that the highway is available for parking provided that no obstruction is caused. Sadly, in many areas, motorists park in a way which blocks access to private drives and also to the highway itself. Parking on a narrow road opposite another parked vehicle may limit access for emergency vehicles, delivery vans and refuse collecting vehicles. Parking on or very near a junction impedes the sight line for drivers negotiating the junction and parking partly or wholly on a pavement may block access for wheelchair users, pram pushers and pedestrians, causing safety issues for those who have to use the road instead. Hatching on the road near a junction means no parking, as do double yellow lines at any point. Remember, the highway extends to the back of the pavement, so parking on the pavement where there are double yellow lines on the road is also illegal. Please be aware of these issues when you park anywhere in our borough.
Congratulations to all our gardeners who won awards at the recent In Bloom, It`s Your neighbourhood event. Special praise for Bamford Chapel and Friends of Bamford who both gained Outstanding Level 5 once again. Other groups in our ward who also won awards were Springfield Park, Bamford Court and Pegasus Court. Thanks for all the hard work which goes into making Bamford such a lovely place to live.
Many of you will have spotted the notices which have appeared on the island at the junction with War Office Road and Norden Road. This is part of a Council initiative to secure sponsorship for traffic islands and green spaces, which brings a considerable amount of much needed funding across the Borough. Once a sponsor is found a new sign referencing In Bloom will appear on the island.
Our surgeries are held on the first Thursday of each month; Bamford Chapel at 10am and Brimrod Methodist at 11.15am but we are always happy to meet you at any time.
Best wishes for a Christmas and for a happy, healthy and peaceful 2025.
Angela, Steve and Phil
