Local Conservative Councillors are backing plans to create a permanent feature to celebrate Rochdale-born Keira Walsh, with a portrait mural on the wall of the former Mecca Bingo site at 12-40 Smith Street, Rochdale.
Keira was given the Freedom of the Borough back in 2022 for her contributions to national and international football, the England Women's National Team and the Olympics.
The proposal was brought to the Rochdale North Township Committee meeting on Wednesday 13th March 2024 and received the backing of local Conservative Councillors Peter Winkler and James Gartside who were in attendance. Councillor Winkler said: "This is something that we can all get behind and will be a great addition to the town centre. This work will be an extension of the other murals around the town so let's get this inspiring lady up on the wall and showcase something positive from Rochdale."
