It was a fantastic result for Norden Ward at last nights local elections, when candidate Mike Holly secured his place as Norden's third Conservative Ward Councillor. Mike, who has been a Councillor for eight years in South Middleton has lived on Spring Bank Lane for many years, but has not had the opportunity to stand in the area. This year he siezed the opportunity and local people rewarded his enthusiasm and committment with a huge majority.
Speaking in the early hours of Friday morning Mike said he was looking forward to working with existing Councillors, Jim Gartside and Peter Winkler to continue and assist with their valuable, year-round work in the ward.
The night also saw Norden's Labour candidate pushed into third place behind UKIP and the Libaral Democrats finish a poor fourth. Councillor Peter Winkler said: "I am delighted that Mike has completed our Conservative team here in Norden. The opposition can say what they like about Norden being a 'safe' Conservative area, the fact is that we earn the respect of the public by working hard for our residents all year round. The other parties just don't do that and it shows in the results. Now, with Mike on board, we can do even more."
