A By-Election is to be held in Norden Ward, caused by the untimely death of Councillor Ann Metcalfe. Local family man and community leader Peter Winkler has been selected to stand as the Conservative candidate.
Peter said: “I'm both sad and honoured to have been selected to stand in the ward in which I live. Saddened because it is caused by the loss of my friend Ann Metcalfe, but honoured to be given the opportunity to represent Norden on Rochdale Council. When I first came to live in the village it was Ann who got me involved with the community and the Conservative party; I know that she would be delighted for me to be standing."
“I have always lived in the borough, my parents lived in the village and my wife grew up here, so we have strong local connections. I now live in the village with my wife, Karen and our two children."
“I am the Chairman of the Norden Environmental & Economic Village Association (NEEVA) and a Governor at Caldershaw Primary School, as well as sitting on the steering committee for Rochdale Township in Bloom. My community work gives me a thorough understanding of local matters and if I am elected as your new ward councillor I look forward to continuing and extending the time I spend working for the people of Norden."
“I live in the village, have a mortgage, a young family, and I run my own business. I understand the issues that local people are facing because I face them too. In these difficult times it is important that Norden has a strong voice on the Council. If I am fortunate enough to be elected I will always speak up for the village I live in, and will represent all the people of the ward, no matter where they live, or how they vote."
“Whatever your opinions of national politics please remember that this is a local election. If elected I will be here for you, to do all that I can to represent you and the people of Norden and to act in the best interests of our village. Thank you.”
