A new community Action Group has been formed following a public meeting to discuss council plans to sell of recreational land in Caldershaw, Norden.
Speaking after the meeting Cllr. Peter Winkler said: "This is just the result that was needed and I am delighted that we have got such a response from local residents. The new community action group shows that there is a really strong feeling in the area that this land should not be sold for development, and should remain as the valuable community recreational asset that it is."
Cllr. Jim Gartside said: "It is right that the public have had an opportunity to have their say on this matter and that representatives from the new group will have the opportunity to speak on the matter when it returns to Rochdale Township."
Cllr. Mike Holly added: "We have seen an overwhelming response from local people, it is really very encouraging. This recreational speace serves a lot of homes and families, not just in the immediate area, but from futher afield too."
Representatives from the new group will speak on Wednesday 4th March, when the question of whether to sell the land returns to Rochdale Township. This meeting is held in public and anyone wanting to oppose the sale is encouraged to come along to the council offices at Number One Riverside to show support. The meeting starts at 6:15pm and there is loads of free parking available at that time just over the road.
The next meeting of the new community group will be at the Norden Old Library on Saturday 14th March and following the outcome of next Wednesdays meeting will discuss the future of the site. Again anyone interested in supporting the new group is invited to come along.
