Conservative Councillors have attended the public inquiry into the proposed development of 16 new wind turbines at the Scout Moor site which overlooks Rochdale.
Planning permission for the expansion was granted by Rochdale’s Labour run council in 2015 despite strong opposition by the Conservative group, the general public and concerned local groups. Following an extensive battle the government ‘called in’ the decision, which will now be determined by the Secretary of State.
Conservative Councillors Mike Holly, Peter Winkler and Jim Gartside attended the hearing to give evidence, speaking of the widespread public feeling against the development on a number of grounds including environmental, heritage, landscape and ecological issues.
A final decision is not expected until 2017.
