Hello everyone,
We hope everyone has had a good summer, in spite of the very mixed weather.
Congratulations to all those who were successful in GCSEs and other exams and best wishes to those young adults who have already begun a new stage of their life, either in work or further education. Best wishes also to younger children who have started school or moved to a new class or school in September.
We have some good news in this edition. First of all, we were pleased with the work on Bury Rd during the summer holidays. Although there was some disruption at times, it was kept to a minimum and we think everyone will agree that the workforce were exceptionally helpful and hard working. The project was finished on time and the end result is a great improvement.
Secondly we were delighted that Springfield Park has finally been awarded Green Flag status. We have worked alongside council officers to plan improvements and to assure regular maintenance of this beautiful park. Several years ago we funded the planting of an orchard on the old grass tennis courts, and this is now being used by beekeepers who manage and maintain the site and have created an educational facility.
There is still much to be done in the park, for example in the Mere, and we are committed to supporting the work of our Environmental Management team there.
Last week we were pleased to see that one of the new speed signs on Norden Rd was in place. Sadly, this week it has been taken down again. Hopefully there will be better news in the next issue.
Although August has been a quiet month in terms of committees, we have continued to address issues and concerns raised by residents. We are pleased that GMP has set up monthly meetings with Councillors and local officers, which are proving very useful.
We have also attended a meeting relating to new laws which will come into force in October regarding the reporting and registering of deaths. There will be a change in this difficult area, so look out for any information about what will be required.
Our surgeries are held on the first Thursday of each month. 10am -11am at Bamford Chapel and 11.15 at Brimrod Methodist Church. As always, please get in touch at any time if you need to speak to us.
Angela, Steve, and Phil.
